Ways to Spice Up Your Marriage

Intimacy is very important in marriage. As a mom of four littles, I know it can be hard and can become almost routine. That is why I am sharing these twenty ways to spice up your marriage!

Here are some ways to build intimacy physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Pray Together

This may not sound like it would be a spice up your marriage, but prayer adds a whole new layer to the intimacy shared in bed.

Set The Mood

Hang some twinkle lights, light some candles/turn on some LED candles. Spray some romantic room spray around your room or diffuse some essential oils. Take a few minutes to freshen up and pray for your time together.

Flirt

A lot of times we give up pursuing our spouses, take some time, and flirt with your hubby. Look for little opportunities to be flirty.

Touch Often

Hold hands. Put your hand on their back as you walk by. Sit close enough for your shoulders to touch. Rub their back. Grope them playfully when no one is looking.

Go Stargazing or Watch the Sunset (or Rise) Together

Make a thermos of cocoa or tea and grab a blanket and enjoy nature together. Hold hands. Cuddle up.

Shower Together

This is something that a friend of mine told me to do years ago. Even if “nothing happens” it’s a great time to connect.

Send/ Leave Him Love Notes

Send a suggestive text. Leave a sticky note on his steering wheel or rear-view mirror. Use bath crayons to mark up the shower. Dry erase markers work well on mirrors (so do sticky notes). Leave a note in the book he is reading. Stick a note in his lunchbox.

Just Make-out or Fool Around

This is actually one of the best bits of advice I have gotten. I will just leave it there.

Cook Together

Working together, in a smaller space like a kitchen is a great way to start a romantic interlude.

Matthew Ricco notes “It’s a very intimate activity. And providing them with something that they potentially need, you’re really showing them that they have your support, your love, your backing, and that’s the kind of thing that really, really promotes well being, positive growth and closeness within relationships,”

Have Fun Blindfolded

When we remove our sense of sight it heightens our other senses…including touch.

Play a Game

Might be harder to do, but… Lay Twister out on your bed and play naked. Play strip card games. Don’t play poker? Play Uno, go fish, war, crazy 8s…

Try Something New

Try a new position when love-making (If you need inspiration, you can check out Sock Monkey Karma Sutra). Or try doing it in a different room in the house. Leave the lights on. Try morning instead of nighttime (It is a lovely way to wake up!). Trying something new is a great way to spice up your marriage!

Play With Your Food

Have some fun with whipped cream or chocolate sauce. Put a smear here and there, and have your hubby lick it off.

Give Him a Coupon Book

A coupon book is a fun way to spice things up your marriage. You can make it yourself by looking on Pinterest for printables, or check out this one.

Go Exploring…

Your husband’s body. A lot of times things can become habit or commonplace. Have fun exploring and watching how he reacts to your touch.

Massage Each Other

Massage is a fun way to unwind together. There are a lot of free videos on techniques if you search “couples massage – learn how to connect and soothe”.

Go Shopping

Online shop with hubby for something special to wear for an evening in. I like Mentionables because they do not use models for their lingerie.

Intimately Us

I have only recently found this app, but it is great. Very clean, and not vulgar about the topic. I really like that it sends challenges and prompts to my phone. I am still exploring it, but definitely loving what I am seeing.

Get to Know His Love Language

Finding your spouse’s love language, and making sure that their ‘love tank’ is full, is extremely helpful. I shared a handy app to help with this on my own website.

Talk to Each Other

Pinterest is full of fun questions couples can ask each other, or you can get a deck of cards with questions (I like the Intimacy Card by BestSelf).
